I have tried this with two HDD's and the result is the same. I have done two CMOS resets also and this makes no difference. I managed to get the command prompt screen up but, although entering 'dir' and it shows windows files, it starts off with a directory 'x' and will not change to any other drive. Given this computer is just over a week old I cannot see why it would be a motherboard or BIOS issue, nor the intel chip.
